Do you know what's in the shirts you wear every day? Traditional shirt fabrics often contains chemicals like silicone waxes, petroleum, heavy metals, flame retardants, ammonia, and formaldehyde—many of which have been linked to cancer, infertility, and developmental issues. So, how can you ensure your shirts are safe? The answer lies in choosing European linen and looking for the right certifications.
At Senja, we’re proud to carry the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 and European Flax®. These guarantee that our linen shirts are free from harmful chemicals, made from organic fibers, and produced with care in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, in line with International Labour Organization standards. Here’s a quick breakdown of what each certification means:
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I:
This certification ensures that every part of our shirts—from the fabric to the stitching—is tested for harmful substances. It goes beyond international regulations, screening for chemicals like Azo dyes, formaldehyde, phthalates, and heavy metals, as well as substances not covered by existing laws. Our shirts are certified under Class I, which means they meet the highest safety standards.
European Flax® Certification:
The European Flax® label guarantees that our linen is traceable through every step of the process, from seed to shirt. Flax grown in its natural habitat—France, Belgium, and the Netherlands—requires no irrigation, pesticides, or defoliants, making it eco-friendly and of the highest quality. The entire farming and processing system follows strict guidelines: zero irrigation, zero GMOs, and zero waste, with fiber extraction done through 100% mechanical methods, meaning no chemicals are used.
